Daniel S. Kirschenbaum, PhD, ABPP

Daniel S. Kirschenbaum, PhD, ABPP, is an expert reviewer of content on WebMD FIT and Raising FIT Kids. He is president and clinical director of Wellspring, one of the world's leading providers of treatment services for overweight young people and families, and director of the Center for Behavioral Medicine and Sport Psychology in Chicago.

A licensed clinical psychologist, Kirschenbaum is professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and former director of the eating disorders program at Northwestern University Medical School. He is a fellow and diplomate in clinical health psychology of the American Psychological Association, as well as former president of the exercise and sport psychology division. Kirschenbaum is a fellow and former executive board member of the Association for Advancement of Sport Psychology and a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee's Registry of Sport Psychologists.

Kirschenbaum has published 10 books and more than 150 journal articles on weight loss, sport psychology, and related topics, including Treatment of Childhood and Adolescent Obesity (1987), Weight Loss Through Persistence (1994), The Healthy Obsession Program (2006), The Sierras Weight-Loss Solution for Teens and Kids (2007) and The Wellspring Weight Loss Plan (2011). In 2000, the American Council on Exercise and its board of directors unanimously endorsed The 9 Truths About Weight Loss as, "the best book ever written for the public on how to lose weight and keep it off."

Kirschenbaum has served as a consultant to professional journals, several major corporations, and sports organizations including the U.S. Olympic Committee, the National Basketball Association, the Ladies Professional Golf Association, and the Chicago Bears. He has been invited to address many professional conferences worldwide and has received numerous grants for research.
