Do the Chicken Stretch!
Sometimes your body needs to rest. When your body rests, you get the energy you need to play. Relaxing is a way to rest. Relaxing helps you feel happy and not crabby. It is good to relax!
One way to relax is to stretch. Stretching helps you relax your body. You can relax your body by doing the Chicken Stretch. When you do the Chicken Stretch, you pretend you are a chicken. You move like a chicken. You make chicken noises, too.
How to Do the Chicken Stretch
Ready? Let's pretend you are a chicken.
Stand like a chicken.
1) Stand up straight.
2) Pick up 1 foot. Lift your knee as high as you can. Keep standing up straight while you lift your knee up. Don't bend over!
3) Put your foot down. Keep standing up straight.
4) Pick up your other foot. Lift your knee as high as you can.
5) Put your foot down. Stand up straight.
Great! You just stood like a chicken. Now stand like a chicken 5 times.
Flap your chicken wings.
Bend your elbows and put your thumbs under your armpits. Look! You have chicken wings.
6) Raise your elbows up to the sky.
7) Push your elbows down to touch the sides of your body.
Awesome! You just made your arms flap like chicken wings. Now, flap your chicken wings 5 times.
Do the chicken strut.
The chicken strut is a way of fancy marching. There are 2 parts to the chicken strut.
The first part of the chicken strut is moving your legs. Raise your knee up high and step forward. Move your back foot up next to your front foot. Raise your other knee up high and step forward. Move your back foot up next to your front foot. You are marching like a chicken.
The other part of the chicken strut is stretching your neck. This is the fancy part. Stand up straight. Point your chin out to your left side. Stop pointing your chin and stand up straight. Point your chin to your right side. Then stop pointing your chin and stand up straight.
