Relax With a "Take a Break Basket"

When you relax, you sit still. When you relax, you are calm. When you relax, you give your body and mind a rest. Resting helps your body and brain grow.

What is your favorite way to relax? There are many fun and healthy ways to relax. You can look at a book to relax. You can listen to music. You can draw a picture. You can play with a puzzle.

Some kids relax by watching TV. But when you watch too much TV, your brain doesn't relax. Too much TV can also make your body lazy. A little TV is OK. But too much TV is not good for you.

You can make a "Take a Break Basket" to help you relax. You can do fun things when you relax. Ask your mom or dad for a basket. Fill up a basket with fun things to do while you relax. Put things like books, puzzles, music, and paper and crayons for drawing in your basket. Ask your parents for help to choose what to put in your basket.

1) Ask your mom or dad to give you a basket. Even a big bag is OK.
2) Put some of your favorite things in the basket. Choose toys you can play with quietly, like these:

  • Coloring books and crayons
  • A music CD

3) When you need to relax, get your basket. Pick out something. Read the book. Play the board game. Solve the puzzle. Draw a picture. Snuggle up on the couch and listen to quiet music.
